CAS National Cheerleading Championship 2013

After a one year hiatus and another year of hard work and determination from our warriors, Legacy brought home a 2nd place title in the Open Cheer Premier Team Category & 3rd place in Co-ed Partner Stunts Category this year. It was a close fight between the teams as we were 13.5points away from the Championship title but nevertheless, our warriors put up a "cheer-worthy" routine that included all elements a cheerleading routine should have - cheer, dance, jumps, gymnastics, stunts.

The Grand Phoenix |
Like all cheerleading teams, Legacy has had our own fair share of obstacles throughout the journey to Nationals. Some of us might even say that we been through more so than other teams. We had people who came and went, leaving because of other commitments due to school or work, or one of the biggest inevitable problem that we faced - NS ARMY ENLISTMENT. And because of all these changes along the way, we soon had to include even our two coaches and our president so that we continue putting a routine for the competition. Just as we thought that would be the end of our problematic turnover, we were faced with another enlistment, and this was when one of the old birds who had stopped cheering with us for 3 years, Justin, to replace Nelson in the routine. It was a really tough call for the coaches but it took us minimal persuasion to ask Justin to help out and we were really grateful for that!

Justin the old bird |
And before we thought that would really really be the last of our problems, an unfortunate incident took place just one day before nationals itself. One of our flyers, Cheelings, took a hard hit on her brow bone and suffered a serious bruising that deemed her unfit to compete the next day. It was then that we decided to call in a replacement (this time for a flyer) and this was none other than our younger sister Ally from NYP Grizzlers!

Our little Hero of the day - Ally! |
Even though we took half an hour convincing her that the replacement was not a joke, this little hero managed to start learning the routine at 8am on nationals the day itself and went onto the competition mats hitting all her stunts at 5pm! Calm and composed, she learnt everything quickly and professionally like a true cheerleader. Legacy is glad to say that we are very very proud to have you as part of the routine and we would like to thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts for being our legendary legacy (:

The 21- Legawarriors |
Hence, as our nationals journey come to an end, Legacy will like to give a few big THANK-YOU! shoutouts to a few special people.
1. 21-men
This goes to our 21 Lega-warriors for making a statement at this year's nationals, for every single training that you put in your heart and soul for, for sticking through with the team and your decision to fight on each time you wanted to give up. We were clearly the crowd's favourite as quoted from our dear Head Coach Andra, and both the old and new birds are extremely proud of every single one of you!
2. Coaches & Mr D
Thank you Andra, Fairul and Derrick for being the pillars of strength for the team. For the wonderful routine, the awesome music, the creative and visually exciting choreography and all the petrol money that Mr D spent fetching each member home, making sure that they get their proper rest after training. We really appreciate it.
3. Our Designer for this year's uniform - MS KAREN LEE!!!
Even though Karen may not be competing with us this year, she was the brainchild behind this year's fashionable yet fierce uniform for Legacy. Legacy is extremely grateful and proud to be wearing this uniform designed all the way from New York to represent the team on the mats! Thank you for agreeing to designing such a wonderful piece of art despite having juggle with your work and school commitments.

4. The Unsung Heroes
A team is never complete without the unsung heroes. These people are the ones were part of nationals in ways that seemed small but big in meaning. To the army boys who had to leave midway despite all the hard work that you've put in initially to fight on with the team, Thank you Shabeer, Glenn and Nelson. To the old birds who came down as and when you could, especially on the last training, and those who supported us overseas, thank you so so much! To the legacians who were part of the backstage crew, Thank you so much for your help with the props, the ribbons and food and the operations during the competition day itself! Thank you Randall and Joshua for being the Cameramen and your gorgeous photos for Nationals! And last but not least, thank you to all the Cheer Mums & Dads who made their way down to support legacy at D'marquee!
5. Our Brothers and Sisters
Thank you to our brothers and sisters from Grizzlers for sharing your mats, your manpower and your training ground with us!
Thank you to our brothers and sisters from Bangkok University for your well-wishes and support all the way from Bangkok!! Khop Khun Maak Kha! Legacy love BU too na!!
Thank you to Team Pilipinas for enthusiastic support and the loud cheers from you all during our routine!
And thank you to all the other brothers and sisters who supported Legacy in one way or another, either by coming down during our trainings or nationals itself. It really meant alot to us.
Although this chapter might have closed on us, Legacy will still be fighting hard for a better, stronger and fiercer routine next season. As family-orientated as we may be, it proved us well that team spirit matters a lot especially in periods of diversity. Without our family members (our old birds and brothers and sisters from Grizzlers), we might not have been able to fulfill this year's journey. So keep a look out for Maroon & Gold next year, as this war might have ended, but a new battle has begun. (:
